I'm a single mother, a philosophy scholar, and an offshore fisherman, and if that isn't a weird enough combination, I'm also beautiful, intelligent, generous, rational, affectionate, loyal and single. I'm kind of a tricky case because I'm resistant to the idea of dating academics, but at the same time I'm frustrated with meeting really great guys who would be perfect if only I could have a proper conversation with them. I'm looking for someone who can relate to both sides of my life, the scholar and the workhorse, someone who's super active and adventurous, but also articulate and honest. I won't pretend I don't have high standards; I really don't know if what I'm looking for even exists, but I'd rather be alone than settle for someone who isn't strong enough to own me. My instinct is for the submissive role, so I guess I'm looking for a scholarly alpha male, if that isn't a contradiction in terms. I'm very good at what I do, I hold myself to very high standards without ever losing my sense of humour about life, and I'm an incurable advocate of the hardest path. I'm not a workaholic in the usual sense, though writing sets a demanding schedule and fishing an inhuman one, but my work is my highest passion. I love to read, and you're likely to catch me with anything from fantasy epics to (Continental!!!) philosophical esoterica to general-readership science writing. I also love a good long walk, preferably after dark and someplace I've never seen before, and I'll admit to a mild Legend of Zelda addiction. I don't drink to excess any more than is absolutely unavoidable and I won't set foot in a dance club, but I definitely like to relax with a few beer, and I'm a big fan of live music. I'm brutally honest, so you'd better be too if you're going to survive me.
