New to South Bend/Notre Dame I just moved to South Bend over the summer, and I am still adjusting and trying to meet people. I am currently a PhD student and graduate assistant in the Department of History at the University of Notre Dame. I started my studies here in the Fall of 2010. Prior to that, I received my BA and MA at San Diego State University,and I miss the sun and the Pacific Ocean.

Before my career in academia, I worked as a city of New Orleans paramedic (N.O. Health Department EMS), and prior to that served in the U.S. Coast Guard. When I am not working, I enjoy biking and photography, and I am a big baseball and football fan.

I spend most of my time right now doing graduate school stuff. I guess I should say a little more about what I am working on:I guess since it is what I do with most of my time right now I should give a few more details about it: History, working on a PhD at Notre Dame. Broadly, my research interests are Cold War Latin America, post World War II decolonization movements in Africa, Marxism, and the Global South. My dissertation research is on the role of Cuba in supporting the African National Congress’ struggle against Apartheid in South Africa, and how it affected the broader Cold War conflict. The project I am currently working on is about the Taller de Gràfica Popular artists collective in Mexico City, and its political activism, especially its connection with the Hull House and the Industrial Workers of the World in Chicago. Language wise, I have pretty good Spanish, and very poor Russian, which I am currently working on improving.
