I admit to feeling a bit douche-like in Googling "online dating for intellectuals". In my younger days, I was a real Berkeley snob, and I'm really trying to get away from that.

I'm a huge fan of new, original ideas that are based in logic and/or history. I try not to be a hater, but I still struggle with folks "taking offense" at beliefs with which they disagree. Name-calling and the attendant "isms" also drive me nuts. That all smacks of willful ignorance, which just isn't for me. Don't get me wrong, I'm far from perfect (I can be a real slacker who doesn't always have his act together), but I am well informed and quite logical (I teach graduate level Logical Reasoning).

I'm a real libertarian. I say that because I get the idea that Ron Paul supporters don't understand that he rightfully wants to gut almost every federal program, including Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, etc. And he's right (his foreign policy position is kooky, though). As a Berkeley native, I would have thought this meant that libertarians not only don't care about their fellow human beings, but also that no one else should care, either (OK, are you impressed with my grammar? Proper use of the subjunctive, the idiomatic 2-part construction, and my good parallel structure - I only point this out because I know that some smart women are turned-on by proper grammar). Except real libertarians believe that peace and prosperity - the goal of any legitimate political belief system - is best attained through local politics and a strong free market. After all, the largest charity in the history of the world came from a relatively pure free market source - the Gates Foundation.
