Wishing to become a well rounded author, I've dedicated my life to self education in as many fields of study as were within my grasp. Never finding the intimacy and mutuality I sought in a marriage partner, I dedicated myself to serving my family of origin. Now, having survived their loss, I now return to the prospect of empathic dialog with a potential partner who shares my interest in authentic, diligent, flexible, open minded conversation and constructive inquiry into ourselves. I know of no endeavor lacking some redemptive quality nor of any that cannot be improved through interdisciplinary cross fertilization. To begin at the beginning: what is an emotionally mature adult? With Freud, I'd say that one "grows up" when one forgives one's parents. By extension, wisdom blossoms in the capacity to forgive, on an ever deepening, ongoing basis, the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune. In this capacity, I believe, lies the quintessential component for an open mind and a generous heart, as one cannot exist without the other. And, as the unexamined life is not worth living, so heart and mind must be continually plumbed. This requires a vigilant monitoring of one's feelings and questioning of one's thoughts. This I would call the life process of conscience as it weaves its way from feeling, often ambiguous, ambivalent and paradoxical, toward its cherished goal: clarity, understanding, enlightenment. What greater gift has one to offer others than lucidity, especially, toward accord? Such harmony is only as precious as it is rare. So rare, that, it seems, most people have learned to live without it, forced, as we are, to cooperate with others under fear and lack, in a culture of power and dominat.... I wish to be among the lucky few who, rather, live in a personal culture of generosity and cooperation, based on shared insight and comprehension. The path of folly leads to the palace of wisdom.
