What Is Humanity?

Are we the one species of several surviving tailless primates to select for a focus on intellect as our primary survival tactic?

Or are we the one species to be blessed with conscious awareness of the Creator, entrusted to manage providence to our best advantage and thus honor God, in whose image we are created?

Or are we the one species who will close the door on Life behind us, when we finally drive even ourselves into extinction?

Are we the species so immersed in our cultural story -- separation, dominance, materialism, linearity -- that we will unwittingly destroy the very ecology that led to our success?

Are we the species that has the capacity to make evolution a conscious process?

Is our species at a point in its own evolution to finally let go of the separation illusion, and humbly take a conscious role in Nature?

What is humanity?

`You ask quite a good question.

I believe humanity can be all of those. It is human to have a concept of self, one that is continuously being questioned and changing. Even more interesting is the fact that the question of what and who we are does not have an exact right answer.

I think one of the most important points to note in such discussion is the freedom humans have to choose the answer. Whether we choose to be servants of a higher power or a conscious power over our world, what we are, ultimately, is determined by us. We are the species that can determine what role we wish to play.

That is how I see it. We are capable of empathy and thus capable of creating emotional connections. We have ideas of morality and philosophy. We have the capacity to define ourselves, to change, and to impact the world.

And just as we can empathize, we also wish to be understood and to understand ourselves. This is why we question what we are.

`Thanks for the positive response, Antareskael. I'm sorry I didn't see it before now, when you've become a "former member." I would have enjoyed pursuing the good points you make ... and maybe more.

Hello,

It is a grueling, gut twisting concern!

We are like gods on this earth, but we have animal instincts. In the past,we waged war on others, or defended themselves.

Now, it seems that people still have a feeling of dread that brings them to conflict.

For one reason or another, there are always conflicts going on. Contrasting wills. Promises unkept. It is not enough to have a full belly, one wants more. One wants others to work for him.

It is the nature of things, they join they clash, the grow together etc. I just wish that people weren't so afraid.
