Hi B,B - quite a list - just the chapter headings? I kid - a quick casual glance suggests a reader who was provoked, maybe severely, and early, to figure out how to square the circle - or are you simply curious? Also why this list and not say...a lot of stuff on evolutionary biology, or the big Russians, or....whatever? Why these??

I always liked David Hoffsteder books like the Mind's Eye and Godel Escher Bach. You might consider Society of Mind and In the Theatre of Consciousness.

If anyone wants an ACCESSIBLE introduction to science and the laws that govern it, I would recommend Cassell's Laws of Nature by James Trefil. A very good read.

Because Science requires the application of hard nosed reasoning to what we can perceive with the senses and our extensions of them. And intellectualism is just that.. the application of reasoning.

And it was only a few hundred years ago that what is now studied as Science fell under the umbrella of "Natural Philosophy".

Many people are too busy to read. That is one of the reasons I make audiobooks. My latest venture is on the Internet Archive. Works of Plato, various translations.

I also make ebooks, some of it my own such as The Delian Quest. It is written in Geometric figures and Algebraic equations. Shows a solution to the Delian Problem and what it has to do with. . . . well, not important. It took me about ten years to solve and understand the solution--what it implies, etc., Just hobbies.

Ayn Rand was interesting, however, having actually hand typed a piece of hers one time, I think, well, not exactly up to par. She was, however, popular in certain circles. Many things she got wrong, and tried to dress them up as philosophy.

I reccomend anything about Cynics and Stoics. I'm loving it. I also recommend A Dictionary of Botany
